Stargazers, rejoice! Pakistan is set to witness the first
super blue moon of the year on Monday, at 11:26 pm, as announced by
the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco).
What is a Super Blue Moon?
A supermoon occurs when the moon's orbit brings it closer to
Earth, making it appear larger and brighter in the sky. A blue moon, on the
other hand, is a rare phenomenon where there are multiple full moons in a given
period. This can happen when there are two full moons in a single month or when
there are four full moons in a season, with the third one being called a blue
moon.
Why is it Called a Blue Moon?
The blue moon won't actually appear blue in the sky. The
term "blue moon" refers to the rarity of the event, not the color of
the moon. This year's blue moon is special because it's the third full moon in
a season of four.
The next three supermoons will occur on September 18,
October 17, and November 15, so make sure to catch them too!
Remember, this is a rare opportunity to see a super blue
moon, so grab your telescopes and binoculars, and enjoy the celestial show!
